JESTER’S NFL DIVISIONAL SUNDAY PICKS
Leesburg, Fl.- Divisional Sunday is here! We find Jester sitting at 2-0 for the weekend and 5-1 these playoffs.
CAN I QUIT NOW, WHILE I’M AHEAD?!
I think I will.
I’m done…see ya!
5-1 peace out!
No, not only do I have to go on. I’m going to have to give my prediction for the Jags this week. (Those of you new, Mrs. Jester is a Jags fan…a lifelong fan) For those of you that follow baseball, I’m looking for the manager to come from the dugout, taking two fingers and tapping his arm….we want the lefty!
Nope, no relief writer in sight.
Somebody, start the dirge for Jester.
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (10-6)
PITTSBURGH STEELERS (13-3)
Of course, going into this game, you must mention the early season meeting. It is very hard to ignore. The Jags defense manhandled Pittsburgh that Sunday. Big Ben, as well all know, threw 5 picks.
What is hard to ignore, is it will be 15 degrees at game time. Welcome to Steelers’ Country. Where playoff football is the norm and so are the games in these temps and conditions.
Jacksonville will learn the bitter lesson, that immaturity costs you. You see, in my opinion, there were games the young Jags should have won this season, their antics and age cost them. I wouldn’t be surprised if that immaturity rears it’s ugly head, at some point today.
Break this game down. Steelers vs Jags
Weather…Steelers, this isn’t Florida boys.
Coach…Tomlin, just his personal playoff experience alone.
QB…I’m going Bortles. Psyche. Roethlisberger, hands down.
RB…Bell is better, both running and receiving.
WR Group…why am I still going?
Defense…oh..okay…that’s why…there’s ONE for the Jags. BUT it is a very big one. The Jags defense has let up a league 2nd best 268 yards, compared to the Steelers and their 308 per.
THE HOLD ON TIGHT MOMENT…
The Blake Bortles led Jaguars offense, has outscored Big Ben’s offense this year, 417-406.
For many, that don’t follow the numbers, when you hear Blake Bortles…you think of a crippled by him offense.
Please send flowers if I turn up missing…
Because, against my better marital judgement…
I think experience, the weather, and a healthy dose of LeVeon Bell will prove too much….Pittsburgh wins 30-13.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (11-6)
MINNESOTA VIKINGS (13-3)
This is lining up to be one of the tougher games to predict as you looker closer.
The more and more you study this game, you see can see it either way.
But for me, in the playoffs, the first thing I look at is the defenses and running games. Clearly, the Vikings have the defense, since they led the league this year in points against (252).
Now for the running game. Clearly, the Saints advantage right? The duo of Ingram and Kamara led the league in yards from scrimmage (3094). So running game goes to them. Doesn’t it? Isn’t it clear cut?
PUMP THE BRAKES.
Maybe, just maybe,
Not so clear cut.
let Jester throw one on you…
Since week 5, after Cook went down, Murray and McKinnon are the 2nd best RB duo, in the league, in yards from scrimmage.
Let’s move on to the QB now, shall we?
CLEARLY, this goes New Orleans….no?
It has to, doesn’t it?
Maybe not so fast, Keenum isn’t a… lets say…Blake Bortles. (I’m dead).
But seriously, Keenum, in less than a full season, was right there with Brees in some categories.
Touchdowns…Brees (23)…. Keenum (22)
Interceptions…Brees (8)…. Keenum (7)
Comp %…. Brees (72%) …. Keenum (67.6)
QBR… Brees (103.9) …. Keenum (98.3)
Not as too shabby if you’re a Keenum fan.
If you’re Who Dat fan…it has your attention. Because while the defense is improved…. it is NOT the Viking’s defense. While Ingram and Kamara have been fantastic for the Saints, M&M in M haven’t been far behind. Wide receiver talent is close. Coaching ability is close. Everything is close, when you look at it as a Saints fan, except the Minnesota defense. Your comfort, as that fan, was the belief that Brees was head and shoulders better than Keenum. Is he better, yes….not by the margin some people would like it to be.
Dominate home defenses win. The Saints are a different team on the road….Vikings win 24-20.
For those of you who love the Jester…hope for a Pittsburgh win. I can’t imagine life with her if the Jags win this one.
Thanks for playing along and reading…
